Who can do the courses?

The four week Art Direction course is aimed at a wide range of art department professionals and university graduates who seek art department training in order to further their career in film and television. There aren’t strict exclusions because everyone’s experience varies. However, demonstrable ability in some aspect of the art department, film design, and/or draughting (drafting) is required. This course teaches drawing for film and has proven invaluable to the Art Department Assistant, Stand-by Art Director, Assistant Art Director and Art Director alike, as it is essential to be able to communicate ideas and read drawings which may not be your own. For those with experience in set dressing, set design and scenic artists, it is equally useful to augment your portfolio and broaden your understanding of how the art department functions.

The Advanced Course (three weeks) is aimed at the more experienced art department professional and is suitable for an Art Director to consolidate experience and knowledge, moving toward the demands of production design. Ideally the Advanced Course is undertaken as an extension of the Art Direction Course.

We are proud to have provided course places to students from around the world and are passionate about improving film skills - helping technicians achieve the excellence for which British filmmaking is internationally renowned.
