ART DIRECTION COURSE (Certificate In Draughting)

The Art Direction Course is intensely practical and specially designed to give a good knowledge of film techniques on the drawing board. It will give essential information to enable the student to survey and pick suitable locations and measure space.

Participants will be taught to read existing drawings from present day films. They will also be taught detail drawing to scale or full size.

All this will include:

• lettering

• labelling

• hatching

• elevation

• plans

The course also studies the difference between set drawings and stage layouts and teaches the terms used in film and television.

You will also learn:

• how to make your drawing work for lighting and camera

• how to draw a projection set i.e. a sketch camera view of your set

• how to set up and make camera angles for each ratio and lens

You will also be taught model-making, in card, of a set PLUS how to break a script down including:

• set breakdown

• prop breakdown

• special effects

• vehicles

• stunts

• animals

The Art Direction Course will cover budgeting and how to schedule a film, together with the roles of the personnel in the Art Department. We can also offer CAD training.

For students that have completed this FDI course a one week refresher course is available:

       COST £400 + VAT UK & EU students
       COST £800 + VAT International students
